Post Jubilee
How strange I have not felt the need to write;
Too busy marking papers, while the round
Of celebrations for the Jubilee -
Garden parties, wall-to-wall TV -
All conspired to blot out and confound
Occasional ideas which broke the light.
But now as things calm down and we return
To some sense ot normality, I find
Unexpected lines forming again,
Like droplets running down the window pane,
Until they coalesce within my mind
Into this verse, for you to read in turn.
This may not be a masterpiece but, hey,
I'm glad this sonnet saw the light of day.
